Re: Tips for VFR pilots planning to fly circuit patterns

One of the best CAA documents for newbie pilots is AC-91-9 and AC172-1, you can get it here. It has a lot of useful phraseology examples that you might find helpful, particularly if you do a lot of VFR flying.

Re: AKL TMA frequencies

It's very good to hear that the change is being reversed. Thanks, Duncan :) Also there isn't really a DEP position, that is called Terminal Radar in real life and it handles both arrivals and departures. That looks really good, all somebody needs to do now is Auckland.

Thanks for bringing this up, Duncan. I hear 'IDENTIFIED' about every time I change frequency.

Given the process involved the Seattle one seems a bit more refined. I'm sure this is probably quite an accurate method too.

Re: The Mystery of RCHxxx (REACH) flights

My theory is, if you don't want ATC, don't log onto the Network. That's a good theory, and I honestly do not see the point in flying on VATSIM if you want to actively reject being controlled. My only possible guess as to why some pilots log on only when there's no ATC is to fulfill some virtual air...
