Active Sky Next

Does anybody here use ASN? I was flight planning from North Carolina, USA to Paris using AS6.5 and was expecting to hit a 130kt tailwind up the east coast (see attached image) of the states except that AS6.5 is only showing winds of 236/65 (-57.20) at FL390, whereas the forecast winds are 200/139. T...

Bearing in mind that being on a visual approach and being visual on an instrument approach are two separate things ;)

Re: Norfolk Island Tower

I'm not sure how real you guys would all like to be but Norfolk only has a UNICOM service. Generally speaking all clearances/traffic information is passed on the ground by Auckland Radio prior to departure.

Re: Rarotonga Int Airport

RG is an aerodrome and procedural approach unit similar to that of NP or QN etc and its callsign is "Rarotonga Tower". In real life there is also the Rarotonga sector, which NCRG TWR looks after when they are on watch. I can't see the sector displayed on skyvector but it should be on the En-route Ch...

Re: SNO / 02 Mar 2014 / Island Time - Niue

Fun fact regarding the Oceanic set up. Anything passed on HF is passed by an Air Ground Operator (AG). If it is a clearance, then the clearance will be passed to AG by the oceanic controller. In the case of weather information, that is AG's responsibility (for HF aircraft) and they don't wait for ad...

Re: Helicopters

Few things to add from my perspective. Helicopters can be very easy or very difficult to handle due to the nature of their operations. The fact that they can just about land anywhere can mean that their operations can be a little non-standard and therefore the phraseology a little confusing. As Leon...

Re: Separation on Circling Approaches in NZ

Hi Richard, I'm guessing this was PM? Do you know which Runway(s) were in use? Was somebody shooting the Runway 07 approach circling for 25? Do you also know what the weather was like? I've been away from ADC for a while now but as far I can tell from the big blue book, there has been no recent chan...
