Friday Night Fly-ins
Invercargill Fly-in
Friday 23rd April 2021 1900-2200 NZST / 1700-2000 AEST / 0700-1000 UTC

Another Friday another Friday Fly-in tonight at Invercargill Airport!

Friday Night Fly-Ins are designed to bring the experience of a General Aviation fly-in to VATSIM. While we can't simulate the fun that fly-in's provide once you arrive, we can certainly provide the fun experience of actually flying in.

These events will be moving around airports in NZ and could be Controlled and Un-controlled airports but the flying is primarly focused on VFR flying.

Fly-in time is scheduled for 8:30pm NZ time, (0830 UTC) so plan to arrive at Invercargill around then.

The southern most major airport in New Zealand, Invercargill (NZNV) major airport sporting a procedural control tower, a main terminal and an aeroclub. It operates off a main 2160m long seal 04/22 and 2 grass runways, 705m long 04/22 and 730m long 12/30. Invercargill hosts domestic flights from Air New Zealand and has the capability of accepting international flights as well.

There are a good amount of short flight options this time, with airports such as Dunedin (NZDN), Queenstown (NZQN) and Ryans Creek (NZRC) in the area. Some longer options could include place like Timaru (NZTU) or Wanaka (NZWF). Invercargill is fully IFR equiped if you wanted to do some GA IFR flying for the evening.

After arriving, be sure to stick around to watch and listen to the other traffic coming in and out for the airport for the event, then why not pick a different airport to depart to and enjoy the fantastic scenery the area has to offer.

ATC for Core positions will be rostered on by the Events Director for Friday Fly-in events.

This decision was made due to the high interest in controlling and limited positions available.

To apply please use the applications tab above. Applications will close at the end of the Tuesday before the event.

Core positions will be the positions listed below on this page.

Invercargill is a Towered airport with procedural services to 9500ft or 50 NV DME where it then switches to Christchurch Control. Both positions will be staffed for the event.
