X-Plane VATNZ compatible navigation data

#1 Post by Stuart MacIntosh » Sat Sep 07, 2013 1:52 pm

Hello
Using the New Zealand Ubersector (.sct2) file for VRC from VATNZ, some Python and beer, I've merged the current NZ fixes back into X-Plane for better compatibility with VATSIM, while taking care to round the D-M-S coordinates to WGS84 using IEEE 754 decimal 64-bit data types.

The original X-Plane DAFIF-sourced data had 113995 FIXes, after it has 114136 FIXes. 528 FIXes were in the ubersector file, from which only 16 were identical to the X-Plane data. 371 FIXes were changed and 141 created. This probably buggers up those FIXes in other parts of the world, if they still exist so, YMMV flying in those areas the updated FIXes were, with the resultant data. Some FIX name changes could appear as two FIXes also, until I prune those out.

You can download a replacement earth_fix.dat from the URL below, it goes in X-Plane 10/Resources/default data

Update 2013-10-23
X-Plane.org now hosts this nav data update, the gitorious URL above will become neglected

This is awesome, Stuart, thanks! Copying this to the Flight Simulator Help board so other XPlane 10 users can find it.
