Compass World Safari II Leg 12 - Keflavik to Kangerlussuaq

#1 Post by Jackson Harding » Wed Dec 09, 2009 6:24 pm

World Safari II Leg 12 Sunday 13 Dec 2009

Leg 12 and we head into the depths of Viking country in the North Atlantic. This is the second of three legs that may see us flying through some interesting Northern winter weather. Kangerlussuaq is also sometimes known by it's former (Danish) name of Sonde Stromfjord. Standard starting time of 0300 UTC.

Iceland scenery can be sourced from both flightsim.com and avsim

The same applies for our destination, Greenland scenery can be sourced from both flightsim.com and avsim

The route is DCT KEF GIMLI 6530N DA58 DA W28 SF DCT This leg is 732 nm. Given the depths of the Northern winter some might like to time shift and enjoy either the short winter day or the prospect of an aurora at night. Remember that first light is before sunrise and last light is after the sun has set.

* First Light Keflavik 0956 UTC
* Last Light Keflavik 1652 UTC
* First Light Kangerlussuaq 1219 UTC
* Last Light Kangerlussuaq 1813 UTC

Charts for Keflavik are found in the online Icelandic AIP.

Charts for Kangerlussuaq are in the Greenland AIP

See you there!

Did this flight in the 737. A nice little jaunt. Something odd with the terrain textures over central Greenland though. Kept repeating in a tile fashion. Kangerlussuaq is an interesting place tucked in a valley.
